What is a Class 1 Wet Scrub Rating?

A Class 1 Wet Scrub Rating is the highest classification for durability and washability a paint can achieve under the official standard BS EN ISO 11998:2006. When you see this rating on a BEDEC product, it is an independent guarantee that the finish can withstand repeated cleaning without losing its appearance.

To achieve this certification, our paint undergoes independent testing. Here’s how it works:

  1. A sample of the paint is applied to a test panel and allowed to fully cure.
  2. The panel is then placed in a specialized machine where it is subjected to 200 cycles of mechanical scrubbing with a weighted brush.
  3. After the test, the surface is precisely measured to calculate any loss in paint film thickness.

To be certified as Class 1, the paint must show a film thickness loss of less than 5 micrometers (μm).

What This Means for Your Walls

Choosing a BEDEC paint with a Class 1 wet scrub rating means you are investing in durable, and long-lasting finish that is perfect for high-traffic areas like hallways, kitchens, and commercial spaces where everyday marks, and stains can be washed away with water.

Class 1 Scrub Rating is your assurance of a tough, durable, and easy-to-clean paint, verified to a high industry standard.
