From faded to fabulous.
Glen’s Secret to Perfect Doors
For many homeowners, the garage door and front door are the first things visitors see. Yet, they are often the last things to receive a much-needed refresh. Exposed to the relentless British weather, a once-proud fibreglass garage door can become faded and chalky, while a classic wooden front door can look weathered, with paint peeling and the wood showing signs of distress.
Faced with this exact scenario, Glen, one of our former BEDEC representatives knew exactly where to turn. With an insider’s knowledge of what works, he reached for a single, versatile solution to revitalise both the tired fibreglass garage door and the weathered wooden front door: BEDEC Multi Surface Paint (MSP).
Glen shared with us the results and below are before and after images.
What is BEDEC MSP?
BEDEC Multi Surface Paint is a high-quality, water-based paint renowned for its remarkable versatility and performance. MSP is a paint, primer, and undercoat all in one. It’s designed to adhere directly to a huge range of surfaces – from wood and MDF to metals, plastics, and even challenging materials like fibreglass – with minimal preparation.

Transforming the Fibreglass Garage Door
The fibreglass garage door had lost its original lustre, looking dull and dated. A replacement would have been costly, but a refresh with MSP was simple and economical.
The Process:
- Preparation: The only preparation required was a clean.
Thanks to MSP’s self-priming capabilities, no separate, tricky-to-apply plastic or fibreglass primer was needed.
- Colour Choice: Glen wanted a modern, sophisticated look. He chose to have his MSP tinted to a mid-range blue.
One of the standout features of BEDEC MSP is that it can be tinted to thousands of colours from RAL, BS, and designer palettes, offering almost limitless customization.
- Application: Two coats of the tinted MSP were applied using a roller for the large flat sections and a brush for the detailed areas.
The result was a garage door that looked brand new. The paint formed a highly flexible and durable film, offering robust protection against UV rays and weathering, ensuring the smart new look would last for years.

Reviving the Weathered Wooden Door
The wooden front door had seen better days. The existing paint was flaking, and the wood looked thirsty and tired. Here, MSP’s protective qualities were just as important as its aesthetic ones.
The Process:
- Preparation: For the wooden door, all loose and flaking paint was scraped off, and the surface ‘keyed’ back for the paint to grip onto. To aid penetration on porous areas, the first coat of MSP was thinned down with 30% clean water ( see can for full instruction ). No separate wood primer or undercoat was required.
- Application: Again, two coats of MSP were applied with a brush. The paint’s microporous film is a key benefit for wooden surfaces. This means it creates a barrier to stop rain from getting in, but allows the wood to breathe, letting inherent moisture vapour enter and escape. This prevents the blistering, cracking, and peeling often seen with traditional oil-based paints, dramatically extending the life of the wooden door.

Protection and Peace of Mind
By using BEDEC Multi Surface Paint, Glen not only gave his home a stunning visual makeover but also invested in its long-term protection. Both the fibreglass and wooden doors are now shielded from the elements by a flexible, hard-wearing coating that won’t flake or crack.
This project perfectly illustrates why BEDEC MSP is a firm favourite among both trade professionals and DIY enthusiasts. Its ability to simplify preparation, adhere to almost any surface, be tinted to any colour, and provide lasting protection makes it the ultimate problem-solver for sprucing up and safeguarding your home’s exterior.
