Celebrating 25 Years of Innovation: MSP – The All-Surface Paint

2024 marks a quarter-century since the introduction of MSP, a revolutionary water-based paint that defied scepticism and transformed the industry.

In the 1980s, tightening regulations and safety concerns surrounding solvent-based paints pushed the industry towards water-based alternatives. BEDEC, already a leader in both solvent and water-based paints, saw an opportunity. We committed to researching and developing water-based paints that not only matched, but surpassed the performance of solvent-based options.

This pursuit coincided with advancements in raw materials and production methods. Leveraging these innovations, we created MSP: a water-based, self-priming, self-undercoating paint designed for versatility and ease of use across a wide range of surfaces.

Initially, the concept of a high-performance water-based paint that could be used inside and outside, as well as acting as a self-priming, self-undercoating finishing paint faced disbelief. Yet, over the last 25 years, MSP has earned its reputation as a truly remarkable product. It boasts excellent adhesion to most surfaces, forming a tough, durable film. The cured film has even been found to be tough enough to coat the external surface of flight worthy historic aeroplanes.

While competitors attempted to replicate MSP, they ultimately resorted to developing a multitude of specialized paints for different surfaces. In contrast, MSP remains the “one can for all jobs” solution, a testament to its unmatched versatility.

Inspired by the catch phrase of a famous children’s series about a fictitious builder our early slogan for MSP was ‘Can you paint it, Yes you can’!
